INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee, however, gained 10 paisas in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.60 and Rs 139.10 respectively, they said. The rupee lost 50 paisas versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 156.50 and Rs 158.00 respectively, they said.
In the third Asian trade, the dollar edged lower versus its peers on Wednesday, as rising hopes of a breakthrough in US-China trade talks led investors to put money into the euro and Asian currencies.
The euro gained 0.1 percent to $1.1335, while the Aussie dollar, often considered a barometer for global risk appetite, rose 0.3 percent to $0.7112.
The dollar index, a gauge of its value versus six major peers, was marginally lower at 96.65, having lost 0.35 percent on Tuesday.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 70.530, the greenback was at 4.063 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.756 versus the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee maintained downward trend for the second consecutive day against the major foreign currencies including the US dollar and the British pound in the local currency market on Wednesday.
The short supply phenomenon of the US dollar prevailed for another day in the market which helped its further appreciation by 10 paisas for buying and selling at Rs 138.60 and Rs 139.50 against the overnight closing trend of Rs 138.85 and Rs 139.40 respectively, local currency dealers said.
Similarly, the local currency also followed the same suit versus the pound sterling. Consequently, the pound's buying and selling rates also improved from the Tuesday's closing of Rs 177.30 and Rs 178.85 to Rs 178.00 and Rs 179.40 respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee showed a recovery of 10 paisas against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Wednesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 138.70 (buying) and Rs 138.80 (selling) against last rate of Rs138.80 (buying) and Rs 138.90 (selling). It closed at Rs138.70 (buying) and Rs 138.80 (selling).
The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs Rs. 67,300 (selling) and Rs 67,000(buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
